Getting Married!!!

Big changes have been happening for gay New Yorkers and it has been wonderful!!!! We went through two weeks of hell at the end of June waiting for the NY senate to vote on marriage equality.  It was an emotional roller coaster, but in the end the decision came down in our favor!  We went into Manhattan that night to join hundreds of people outside of The Stonewall Inn.  It was an amazing feeling and all we could do was cry we were so happy.
This was a Friday night and that Sunday was NYC Pride.  Needless to say it was an amazing Pride filled with so much love and hope!!!  We were so proud to be there and to be able to be a part of the festivities.
Governor Cuomo, Mayor Bloomberg, and NYC Council Speaker Christine Quinn at the parade!
The law actually went into effect today and over 800 couples are being married today!!!!  So, "C" and I are getting married on FRIDAY!!! I can' t believe that in 5 days I will be a married woman.  This is a tremendous victory for equality and I can only hope that NY will help lead the way for the rest of the states.

  2. Yes we did it! We are married. It is so unbelievable. I wasn't sure that it would feel different since we have lived together so long but there is a definite difference. Everyone deserves to be able to feel this way. This has actually really pushed us to try to be more involved with marriage equality in other states. We all have a right to this wonderful feeling!
